Denver -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will present the ENSAR Group with an award for Excellence in Promoting Superior Energy Performance in a ceremony on Friday, April 29. The event will be held at 8:30 a.m. at the Denver Green Building Conference at Belmar Center in Lakewood, Colo. Media are invited to attend.
The Boulder-based ENSAR Group provides architectural and sustainable design consulting services to help clients reduce energy use and improve environmental quality. These services include daylighting design, energy optimization, environmentally preferable materials, LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System® consulting and coordination, and green building instructional workshops. ENSAR has enhanced the environmental performance of both new construction and renovation projects on a diverse range of building types including commercial facilities, offices, schools and homes.

"Partners like ENSAR are what the ENERGY STAR program is all about," said EPA's regional ENERGY STAR program manager, Patty Crow. "The expertise and know-how that this small firm leverages is improving the design and performance of buildings across the nation. The result is lower operating costs for owners and managers, less use of nonrenewable resources and a better environment."

ENSAR is the first architecture-engineering firm to be honored with an ENERGY STAR award. The company includes architects, engineers, lighting and interior designers and energy analysts who are committed to finding effective, efficient and innovative design solutions for projects. In the past year alone, ENSAR has provided sustainable design assistance for more than 55 projects, all of which addressed energy efficiency.

ENSAR frequently provides sustainable material and system recommendations and assists with development guidelines for large-scale residential projects. In two large developments, Ladera Ranch in California and Daybreak in Utah, the company incorporated ENERGY STAR appliances and equipment into development guidelines for all homes. In these projects alone, ENSAR's involvement has increased energy efficiency and reduced the environmental impacts of nearly 22,000 new homes.

ENSAR also promotes energy efficiency and sustainability principles. The company uses its web site to provide information to targeted audiences, including a successful effort to encourage building owners and managers at universities to sub-meter their buildings and employ energy use reduction strategies in dormitories. ENSAR also educates developers on the benefits of energy efficiency and sustainable design and construction practices through presentations, publications and other outreach activities.

ENERGY STAR Awards honor businesses and organizations that are the catalysts that -- through products, services and/or effective outreach efforts -- help companies strategically manage their energy use. These organizations, such as service and product providers, architects, utilities, national and regional market transformation organizations, trade associations and institutional and nonprofit organizations, provide assistance that allows others to reach the goal of improving energy performance.
