FOR RELEASE: THURSDAY, JULY 13, 2000
TECHNICAL BRIEFING SCHEDULED ON DRAFT
GUIDANCE FOR CUMULATIVE RISK ASSESSMENT

EPA will hold a technical briefing Thursday, July 20 on the agency’s draft guidance on cumulative risk assessment. The “Proposed Guidance on Cumulative Risk Assessment of Pesticide Chemicals that have a Common Mechanism of Toxicity” will be held Thursday, July 20, at the National Rural Electric Cooperative Conference Center, 430l1 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, Va., and will begin at 9:30 am. A cumulative risk assessment considers the combined risks from exposure to different pesticides that act the same way in the body, such as the organophosphate pesticides. The draft guidance describes the scientific process EPA is developing for performing cumulative risk assessments, which will enable EPA to make regulatory decisions that fully protect public health and sensitive sub-populations, including infants and children. It is also available at: https://www.epa.gov/pesticides/trac/science/ and in the Office of Pesticide Programs public docket (703-305-5805). Comments on the cumulative risk assessment guidance will not be taken at this briefing but instead should be submitted in writing to the OPP docket at: 1921 Jefferson Davis Highway; Mailcode 7502C; Arlington, Va. 22202.
