Cumberland County School Board to receive $110,000 for clean school buses

(Atlanta, Ga. – Nov. 19, 2007) The Southeast Diesel Collaborative, as part of EPA’s Clean School Bus USA program, will present a grant for $110,000 to the Cumberland County School Board in Fayetteville, NC to retrofit 90 buses with emission control devices. EPA also will present the Board with two copies of the EPA funded book The Magic School Bus Gets Cleaned Up for each elementary school in the County. Kathy Kennedy, Executive Director for Elementary Education for Cumberland County Schools, will read the book prior to revealing the new retrofitted buses.

This initiative encourage policies and practices to eliminate unnecessary school bus idling, install effective emission control systems on newer buses and replace the oldest buses with cleaner diesel or compressed natural gas-powered buses.
