Climate and Energy Resources for State, Local and Tribal Governments

Combined Heat and Power

Combined heat and power (CHP), also known as cogeneration, refers to the simultaneous production of electricity and thermal energy from a single fuel source. This guide, part of EPA's Local Government Climate and Energy Strategy Seriesdescribes how local governments can lead by example and increase use of CHP in their facilities and throughout their communities. The guide is designed to be used by staff at local energy or environment agencies, local code enforcement officials and city planners, city councils, and mayors or county executives.
