U.S. EPA will hold an open house to announce the start of a cleanup at Tremont Field in Cleveland, Ohio
CHICAGO (Sept. 20, 2017) — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will begin a cleanup at Tremont Field, commonly referred to as Clark Fields Park, to address lead, arsenic and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) contaminated soil.
The federal agency, along with the city of Cleveland, Cleveland City Council and Cuyahoga County, will host an open house on Thursday, Sept. 21 from 6-8 p.m. at the Pilgrim Church, 2592 W. 14th St. to inform residents about the cleanup project, long-term plans for the park and answer any questions.
During an environmental assessment performed as part of planned park improvements, the city of Cleveland discovered high levels of contamination present at the 41.5-acre park and requested U.S. EPA assistance to address the contamination. The federal agency intends to place a 2-foot soil barrier over the contaminated portions of the park to allow for safe recreational use. The project is expected to take six to nine months to complete and cost up to $5.9 million.
