CHICAGO (September 25, 2017)Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency began a cleanup of lead at the Sandoval Zinc Superfund site in Sandoval. EPA will address residential and community properties where contamination levels were found to be above the time-critical cleanup action level. The cleanup will take about two months to complete.

The former zinc smelting facility is located off Highway 51 in Sandoval. In 2011, the government added the site to the National Priorities List, a list of the worst contaminated sites in the country.
