Town of Hanover, N.H. Industrial Pretreatment Program Recognized for Excellence

BOSTON - The Hanover Water Reclamation Facility in Hanover, N.H. was recently selected by EPA for a 2014 Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award.

The pretreatment program staff, led by Mark Roper, Pretreatment Coordinator, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in inspecting, permitting and sampling its industrial users that discharge industrial waste into the City's collection system. Although the Town is not required to develop a federal industrial pretreatment program, the Town implements a program that meets most federal requirements. Mr. Roper's outstanding efforts to oversee industrial users along with the submittal of a voluntary annual pretreatment report are additional reasons the Town is being recognized for this Award. The plant was the only facility in New Hampshire acknowledged for exemplary industrial pretreatment program performance during 2014.

"The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are key to keeping our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve," said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.

The EPA Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor employees of publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality through outstanding oversight of its industrial users discharging to the municipal sewer system. More often than not, and particularly with the smaller facilities, conscientious pretreatment coordinators and staff continue to perform exceptionally with limited resources.
