CHICAGO - Today, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy will tour Coalition: Energy and join state and local leaders in a press conference to announce a new smart thermostat initiative for Illinois with a target of installing one million smart thermostats over the next five years.

The smart thermostat initiative, a partnership between utilities and advocacy groups, is the largest effort of its kind in the nation. Homeowners across Northern Illinois will be eligible for rebates on smart thermostats that can cut the cost of the devices in half, making the convenience and increased control of energy use more affordable.

With President Obama's leadership, EPA is ramping up efforts to cut air and water pollution, expand public outreach, enforce laws to defend public health, and hold polluters accountable. Through President Obama's Climate Action Plan, EPA is taking historic action to fight the economic and public health risks of a changing climate by cutting carbon pollution from power plants.
