Hazardous Waste Cleanup Begins at the Carlisle Building Site in Ashtabula, Ohio

CHICAGO (Oct. 10, 2018) – U.S. Environmental Protection Agency today began removing hazardous waste and securing the Carlisle Building, a former department store, at 4519 Main Ave., Ashtabula, Ohio. U.S. EPA anticipates the work will take 25 days to complete.

U.S. EPA will remove hazardous substances from the building, including containers of chemicals and thermostats with mercury switches. Asbestos-containing materials will be left in the building. The agency will board up and seal doors and windows and secure the building to stop trespassers and vandals from entering.
