EPA to Host Two Brownfields and Redevelopment Workshops in Birmingham, AL

ATLANTA – The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM), the City of Birmingham, and the Greater Birmingham Regional Planning Commission will sponsor two brownfields redevelopment workshops on Thursday, September 22, 2016 at the Boutwell Auditorium. 

The daytime workshop will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and will be geared towards government and non-governmental stakeholders.  The evening workshop which will be held from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. and will be a community-based workshop for community representatives and leaders interested in the learning about use of redevelopment tools. 

The main purpose of this workshop, is to, focus on redevelopment tools that the City of Birmingham has already created and how the tools can help facilitate redevelopment.  This is the second year that EPA has sponsored a Brownfields workshop. Last year, EPA sponsored a Brownfields “101” workshop for Greater Birmingham. These workshops are open to the entire region.  These workshops are designed to benefit communities and will be an opportunity to better understand how all the pieces can fit together to achieve a new community vision.
