EPA Honors Seven Southern California Organizations as 2017 ENERGY STAR® Partners of the Year for Achievements in Energy Efficiency
LOS ANGELES—The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) are honoring seven businesses and organizations from Southern California for their commitment to saving energy, saving money, and protecting the environment through superior energy efficiency achievements.
The 2017 ENERGY STAR Partner of the Year Awardees in Southern California are:
KB Home (Los Angeles)—Sustained Excellence for New Home Builder: achieved a major milestone by surpassing a total of 100,000 ENERGY STAR certified homes built to date, with 8,000 homes certified in 2016 alone. The company builds homes in 38 markets across the nation, and its ENERGY STAR certified homes saved homeowners an estimated $30 million on their energy bills in 2016.
CalPortland Company (Glendora)—Sustained Excellence in Energy Management: reduced energy intensity by more than one percent, contributing to the company’s overall improvements of 15.6 percent for a cumulative savings of $96 million. In addition, the company completed major projects including an upgrades to a ready mix concrete plant that incorporates light-emitting diode lighting, premium efficiency motors, shutdown controls, and improved truck idling management, for a savings of more than $51,000 per year.
CBRE Group, Inc. (Los Angeles)—Sustained Excellence in Energy Management: benchmarked close to 2,000 buildings with nearly 800 of these properties having earned ENERGY STAR certification. Additionally, the company has reduced emissions by 16 percent, the equivalent of eliminating 9.8 million passenger vehicle miles over the past ten years.
Kilroy Realty Corporation (Los Angeles)—Sustained Excellence in Energy Management: reduced year-over-year energy use by four percent, saving more than 21.5 million kilowatt hours and $3.88 million since the launch of its energy efficiency programs in 2010.
HCP, Inc. (Irvine)—Energy Management: operated healthcare properties with a total of 76 ENERGY STAR certified buildings since 2008. The company has achieved an average 1-100 ENERGY STAR score of 62, representing a 16 percent energy use reduction to date.
Maximum Energy Professionals (Torrance)—Service and Product Provider: facilitated ENERGY STAR certification for 200 properties, including more than 30 properties for the first time and more than 160 properties that have earned certification in previous years. Additionally, the company is promoting ENERGY STAR tools and resources by providing in-depth training to 20 property managers and engineers.
Energy Upgrade California (San Diego)—Excellence in ENERGY STAR Promotion: state initiative that garnered more than 12 million ENERGY STAR impressions, including 19 feature stories mentioning ENERGY STAR, reaching more than 5 million readers. The program also educated thousands of customers through partnerships with 25 community-based organizations about ENERGY STAR certified products through a series of 52 events and presentations as well as through social media content.
Across the country, EPA and DOE are honoring 143 businesses and organizations in 34 states and the District of Columbia for their superior energy efficiency achievements. In 2015 alone, ENERGY STAR and all of its partners saved American families and businesses $34 billion on energy bills, while helping states achieve their air quality goals.
The awards will be presented in Washington, DC, at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel on April 26. Anne Pramaggiore, ComEd President and CEO, will give the partner keynote presentation.
