EPA to hold Sept. 6 public meeting to announce residential soil sampling at the Beck’s Lake Superfund site in South Bend, Indiana

CHICAGO (Sept. 5, 2017) Environmental Protection Agency will hold a public meeting on Sept. 6 to announce the start of a residential soil study in properties immediately next to La Salle Park in South Bend, Ind. EPA will also provide an update on the 2016 sampling of the park that was completed by the city of South Bend and Honeywell.

In 2013, the government added the site to the National Priorities List, a list of the worst contaminated sites in the country. The property was once used as a dump and landfill by numerous companies and individuals. The area was later turned into a park and some residential housing.
