EPA Helps Restore Santa Clara Creek
DALLAS (June 23, 2016) – The Santa Clara Pueblo of New Mexico is implementing a non-point source pollution program to restore the Santa Clara Creek water shed. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recently awarded $99,344 to the Pueblo to construct 300 rock barrier dams and install flow modification structures to reduce sediment and nutrient loading into the creek.
The Clean Water Act authorizes EPA to provide administration and oversight of its programs and it also empowers states and local jurisdictions the ability to mitigate the effects of non-point source pollution. Non-point source pollution comes from scattered sources and can reach rivers through polluted runoff from rain and snow.
