EPA to connect four homes to municipal water at the Allegan groundwater investigation site in Michigan

CHICAGO (Oct. 25, 2018) – Next week, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will begin the process to connect four homes to the municipal water supply after chromium contamination was found in private drinking water wells in Allegan, Mich. Municipal drinking water is not affected.
This week, EPA began removing trees to prepare for the project. Next week, Oct. 29, EPA will start the extension to connect the four affected homes to the city water main on Lincoln Road and down 29th Street and Jeffrey Drive.
EPA will pay for the connection and cover the cost of closing the private wells since no party responsible for the pollution has been identified. Owners of neighboring properties with private wells — where chromium contamination was either not found or found in low levels — can also request connection to the municipal water at their own expense.
