EPA Administrator Pruitt and Congressman Shimkus Discuss Environmental and Economic Issues Important to Illinois and the Nation

WASHINGTON -- Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt met with U.S. Representative John Shimkus (Ill.-15) on Wednesday in the Congressman’s Washington, D.C., office.  The two discussed environmental and economic issues important to both the nation and the people of the State of Illinois.

“I appreciated the opportunity to meet with Congressman Shimkus today and discuss the issues important to our nation and to the people of Illinois,” said Administrator Pruitt. “The people of Illinois and their elected representatives deserve an EPA that is focused on the basics of protecting the environment, engaging with state and local partners, and ensuring sensible regulations for economic growth.”

“It’s exciting to have an EPA Administrator who recognizes that environmental protection and economic prosperity are not mutually exclusive goals,” said Representative Shimkus. “I look forward to working with my colleagues and Administrator Pruitt to refocus EPA on its core responsibilities, and restore principles of cooperative federalism to environmental policymaking.”
