BOSTON - The Attleboro Water Pollution Control Facility in Attleboro, Mass. was recently selected by EPA for a 2014 Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award.

The pretreatment program staff of the Attleboro facility, led by Aaron Dumont, Pretreatment Coordinator, and John Reed, Assistant Pretreatment Coordinator, was recognized by EPA's New England Office for exceptional work in inspecting, permitting and sampling its industrial users that discharge industrial waste into the City's collection system.

The City of Attleboro's wastewater treatment facility is currently under the supervision of Superintendent Paul Kennedy and Assistant Superintendent Thomas Hayes. This team effort to provide oversight of the City's food establishment sector was one of the primary reasons for the award nomination. Although not a federal requirement, each of the food establishments are annually inspected. The plant was the only facility in Massachusetts acknowledged for exemplary industrial pretreatment program performance during 2014.

"The professionals operating these wastewater treatment plants, as well as the municipalities and the state environmental agencies that support them, are key to keeping our environment healthy. I am proud to give them the credit they deserve," said Curt Spalding, regional administrator of EPA's New England Office.

The EPA Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award was established to recognize and honor employees of publicly owned wastewater treatment plants for their commitment to improving water quality through outstanding oversight of its industrial users discharging to the municipal sewer system. More often than not, and particularly with the smaller facilities, conscientious pretreatment coordinators and staff continue to perform exceptionally with limited resources.
