Plotting each chemical separately gives a different picture of the contamination:

Total Xylenes plume.
Total Xylenes Plume
Benzene plume.
Benzene Plume

Plotting total BTEX disguises the separation between the benzene and xylene plumes. At this site the upgradient end of the plume contains mostly xylene and the downgradient end the plume is mostly benzene. (There was no attempt here to conceal these features because each of these three plots appeared in the consulting report.)
