Representation of contamination with a source, xylene plume, benzene plume and mtbe plume

What other assumptions are implicit in this figure? It is assumed that there was one release of gasoline that contained BTEX and MTBE. There are cases where this happened but it is also possible that non-MTBE gasoline could be released followed by a release of MTBE-gasoline. Thus the MTBE plume could be shorter than the BTEX plumes shown in the figure.

source Color of the contaminant source
xylenes Color of the xylenes plume
benzene Color of the benzene plume
MTBE Color of the MTBE plume
