Modeling Subsurface Petroleum Hydrocarbon Transport

Home Previous < Next >

An Interactive Training Course

The objective of this web course is to provide the necessary background information for applying models to field sites, judging such applications, or for setting program-wide modeling requirements. The course is divided into two parts of equal importance:

  • Fate and Transport of Contaminants
  • Model Application

Part I of the course emphasizes contaminant transport. This is partly because subsurface models are more than computer codes; in actuality the "model" includes conceptualization of the site, site data, and interpretation of the results. Each of these is critical for successful model application.

Part II of the course begins with background on modeling and mathematics. This part of the course includes examples of model report critiques, and model application for petroleum hydrocarbon simulation.
