Summary of Results This link provides an overview of the results of the 1999 risk characterization. Data Tables This link provides all the data tables associated with the 1999 national-scale assessment and includes not only risk assessment information but also emissions, ambient concentration and exposure estimates. Tables are organized so you can see data specific to an individual pollutant or data specific to a State. Most of these tables are available as a downloadable file in Microsoft Access format. A few are Adobe Acrobat pdf files. Bar Charts: Air Toxics Risk Characterization This links to groupings of 2 bar charts that depict summary information related to the risk characterization. Note that these bar charts are best viewed in Adobe Acrobat 7.0. You can obtain this version free of charge at http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html. What about Diesel PM? This link provides information about the potential risk from diesel exhaust emissions. 1999 U.S. Risk Maps This is a link to six U.S. maps reflecting the 1999 results. The first three maps depict estimates at the county level and the second set of three maps show the estimates at the census tract level. In each case there is a map for estimated cumulative cancer and two noncancer hazard maps (respiratory and neurological). Interactive State Maps This link provides State maps for those who wish to view risk estimates for each State and analyze underlying pollutant contributions to the risk using the most refined output available from this national-scale assessment. In performing such analyses, it is important that users be mindful of the limitations of the national-scale assessment. In our judgment, it would be inappropriate to use these results alone to draw conclusions about local concentrations and risk. Background on Risk Characterization This link provides general background on risk characterization in a question and answer format. Health Effects Criteria This link provides cancer and noncancer information which is associated with each toxic air pollutant as well as a reference to the source of that information. EPA used these quantitative health effects criteria to develop the cancer and noncancer risk levels shown on the bar charts and maps. |
