Eric Jorgensen
Dr. Jorgensen's research program is multidisciplinary and features holistic thinking, teamwork, and collaboration. Co-investigators include zoologists, range scientists, physiologists, soil scientists, biogeochemists, and microbiologists from the U.S. Geological Survey, Universities, the Department of Defense, and several states. This group has been actively investigating risk associated with chronic exposure of ecosystems to low levels of nitrate, particularly related to atmospheric nitrate deposition, ecosystem interactions and feedback, and aquatic/terrestrial interactions.
Dr. Jorgensen has been a primary developer of EPA's research agenda with regard to ecosystem restoration. Development of this program has involved a significant effort of representation, consensus building, and collaboration within EPA and among other federal agencies, state governments, and universities.
Dr. Jorgensen is beginning a new research area that will incorporate ecological values into brownfield restoration and redevelopment. He has written more than 50 papers that are published or are in review, with topics on ecological modeling, mammalian ecology and diversity, ecosystem management and restoration, soil science and biogeochemistry, and avian, herpetofauna, and plant community ecology.
