Dr. Jewett is a hydrogeologist with over 25 years of site characterization and subsurface remediation experience in government, industry, and academia. He is the Acting Division Director for the Ground Water and Ecosystems Restoration Division. Dr. Jewett is currently the technical lead for the Study of Potential Impacts of Hydraulic Fracturing on Drinking Water.

Formerly, Dr. Jewett was the Chief of the Subsurface Remediation Branch where he led a team of geochemists, environmental scientists, environmental engineers, hydrogeologists, microbiologists, and soil scientists. The research and technical support they provide are related to site characterization and remedial technology development, evaluation, and implementation at hazardous waste sites. The goal is to protect and restore groundwater, surface water, and ecosystem resources.

Dr. Jewett’s research interests include site characterization techniques, contaminant fate and transport, groundwater flow and solute transport modeling, and groundwater/surface water interactions. He was a hydrologist specializing in applied research and technical support and was the Director of EPA's Center for Subsurface Modeling Support before accepting the position of Chief of the Subsurface Remediation Branch.

Dr. Jewett holds a B.S. in Geology from Syracuse University, an M.S in geology from Wichita State University, and a Ph.D. in Hydrology from the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources at the University of Arizona. Prior to joining EPA, Dr. Jewett was on the faculty of the Department of Geology at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis. He also has several years experience as a hydrogeologist and project manager in the environmental remediation industry.
