EPA RELEASES ONLINE TOOL THAT PROVIDES IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON WATER POLLUTANT RELEASES NATIONWIDE
EPA has released a new online tool that provides information about the amount of pollution and the types of pollutants that are released into local water bodies. Searches help users easily identify facilities and industries that are discharging above permitted levels, the impacted water bodies, violations, and the enforcement actions that EPA and states have taken to address these violations. PUBLIC DATA ON GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS FROM LARGE FACILITIES NOW AVAILABLE TO PUBLIC
On Jan. 11, EPA released an online tool providing greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) data from 9 industry groups and more than 6,700 facilities nationwide which will help businesses, industry and government better plan their reduction of GHG emissions. GHGs contribute to global warming, heat-related death, illnesses, and air pollution.
EPA ANNOUNCES BROWNFIELDS MULTI-PURPOSE PILOT GRANTS REQUEST FOR PROPOSALS
EPA is piloting a new program that will provide a single brownfields multi-purpose grant to an eligible entity, for both assessment and cleanup work at a specific brownfields site owned by the applicant. These grants may be used to address sites contaminated by petroleum or hazardous substances, pollutants, or contaminants (including those co-mingled with petroleum). The proposal deadline is Feb. 10, 2012, and can be found at

EPA STRONGLY RECOMMENDS RADON TESTING TO REDUCE THE RISK OF LUNG CANCER
January is national Radon Action Month and EPA is promoting the testing of homes for radon, a colorless, odorless gas, to prevent lung cancer deaths. Test kits costing approximately $20 are available at home improvement centers and hardware stores. Prevention measures can also be taken to radon-proof a home or building to lower health risks. WasteWise is a free EPA voluntary program that helps organizations meet their goals to reduce their municipal solid waste with innovative waste prevention and recycling techniques. WasteWise members can join as partners, endorsers, or both
EPA's WasteWise Office Carbon Footprint Tool helps office-based organizations reduce GHG emissions associated with their waste recycling, prevention, and green power purchasing efforts, allowing users to estimate their GHG emissions from company-owned vehicles, purchased electricity, waste disposal, leased assets, franchises, and outsourced activities.
