Purpose
DOI Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Ecological Services staff use the best
available science and sound managerial techniques to further the Service’s mission
to conserve, protect, and enhance fish and wildlife and their habitats. Ecological
Services encompasses several program areas that integrate Federal authorities with
social, economic and political realities to ensure sound resource decisions while
recognizing the importance of a partnership approach to resource management. These
programs include activities associated with implementing the Endangered Species
Act, assessing the effects of environmental contaminants on fish and wildlife,
restoring habitat on private lands through the Partners for Fish and Wildlife
Program, protecting migratory birds, and reviewing Federally-funded projects
for impacts to fish and wildlife.
