Ecological Thresholds in Aquatic Ecosystems: The Role of Climate Change, Anthropogenic Disturbance, and Invasive Species

EPA's National Center for Environmental Research (NCER) is sponsoring a meeting to discuss research on ecological thresholds in aquatic ecosystems. This meeting will review the progress of 11 NCER exploratory grants that are developing methods to predict ecological thresholds based on retrospective studies in rivers, lakes, and estuaries. This meeting also will preview 6 new NCER global ecosystem grants that will study the links between climate change and ecological thresholds for linked terrestrial and aquatic systems. Both sets of grants are exploring the effects of threshold exceedances on the respective ecosystems, the services provided by these ecosystems, and methods to manage these resources in the face of potential thresholds. This meeting is open to all who are interested in this new and exciting research area.
