EPA ADMINISTRATOR TO DELIVER KEYNOTE AT FIFTH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE AND ENFORCEMENT


More than 250 invited participants from over 100 countries, national and international non-governmental organizations, will meet November 16-20 in Monterey, Calif. to improve environmental enforcement and compliance with domestic environmental laws and international environmental agreements. EPA Administrator Carol M. Browner will give the keynote speech on the opening night. EPA, in cooperation with a global partnership, including the Dutch Environment Ministry, the United Nations Environment Program, the World Bank, the Environmental Law Institute, the European Commission, the United Kingdom and Environment Canada, and an international Executive Planning Committee will host the International Conference, the first one held in the United States. Key goals are to strengthen and foster global, regional and in-country networks of environmental and law enforcement professionals. The keynote dinner speech (November 16) and the opening morning and closing afternoon plenary sessions are open to the press (November 16 and 20). Arrangements can also be made for individual interviews with conference participants. The conference is being held at the Monterey Conference Center and the Double Tree Hotel in Monterey.
